At the National House of Bishops on Oct 23 I had the sobering pleasure of listening to the Very Rev’d Canon Richard Sewell, Dean of St. George’s College in Jerusalem, and his wife Julia Sewell, who works with a rehabilitation hospital for patients from the West Bank and Gaza. They explained the devastation and horror currently happening in Israel and Gaza, and the great fear of it worsening and spreading. In answer to my question, 'What is the most helpful thing we can do?' Richard replied:
- 'Pray. Pray for peace and healing.
- Communicate with any you know who are in the area that you are praying for them. Keep on communicating, not expecting a response. If you stop sending us emails / texts / etc., we assume you’ve forgotten about us. So please, keep on sending us your notes, not expecting us to reply, because frankly we’re overwhelmed with everything.
- Donate for healing and rebuilding.'
So please, let us pray — pray for a stop to all kinds of war, all around the world. It is devastating, and it is evil. Communicate if you know people in those areas, that you are praying for them in love. And, as you are able, please donate as per the attached appeal, or through the PWRDF.
